“Floor area ratio (FAR)” means the gross floor area of all buildings or structures on a lot divided by the total lot area. For example, a 5,000-square-foot building on a 5,000-square-foot lot has a floor area ratio of 1.0 or 100 percent while the same building on a 10,000-square-foot lot would have a FAR of 0.50 or 50 percent.
